about

Blythe has been making ceramics since she was a kid at summer camp. This practice continued through high school art classes, teaching wheel throwing as a camp counsellor, taking a ceramics course while completing her BFA at Emily Carr University, and in 2020, creating her own home studio in Toronto.

Her current practice is focused on making practical items that can be used in everyday life or displayed as sculptural pieces. She purposely creates an organic look to her hand built work and uses the wheel to form more uniform sets. Blythe uses underglazes to create subtle and striking patterns and recently has been exploring bolder colours and shapes.

When not working with clay, Blythe is likely at a playground or library with her toddler who has endless energy and is always making her laugh. Her very early mornings are often spent biking to teach Pilates. Evenings are spent tending to her garden and baking treats. She might never find the perfect balance between making ceramics, teaching Pilates and most importantly spending as much time as possible with her family, but somehow, she is finding the time for all of it!
